Boeing 737 starts operation on Muscat - Duqm route

The Special Economic Zone Authority in Duqm  (SEZAD) and Oman Air today announced the operation of Boeing 737-800 on Muscat – Duqm route to avail additional seats to passengers. The flight using Boeing 737 will be operated every Sunday and Thursday. The flights on Monday and Wednesday of each will be on Embraer 175.

SEZAD is the supervisor for the operation of this route. The flight No. WY3921, which landed at 09.30 am today at A'Duqm Airport carried 93 passengers from Muscat to A'Duqm and 53 passengers from A'Duqm to Muscat. The Boeing 737-800 accommodates up to 162 passengers including 12  businessmen, and 150 economy class seats compared to 11 business and 60 economy class seats on Embraer.

Shaikh Khalil bin Ahmed al- Salmi, Deputy CEO at Oman Drydock Company said that the route, which will increase the number of passengers to SEZD, comes in a bid to keep pace with the growth witnessed by the region.

On his part, Wahad Saud al- Harthy, Director of Capacity at Oman Airports Management Company said that during the past period, the company took all necessary measures to facilitate the traffic of passengers through A'Duqm Airport using this type of aircrafts.

Mumtaz al- Balushi, Director of Administrative Affairs and Services at SEZAD said that the number of passengers through A'Duqm Airport in 2015 stood at 15,000 compared to 7629 passengers in 2014. He added that the operation of A'Duqm Airport on July 23rd 2014 led to a remarkable increase in the number of passengers visiting A'Duqm. Jaaloni Airport , which started operation in 2012 also facilitated passenger traffic between Muscat and SEZD.

The opening ceremony was attended by a number of SEZAD, Oman Air, Oman Airports Management Company and Royal Oman Police officials.
