Aims to enable school students to keep pace with the rapid developments in modern technologies and future skills

SEZAD concludes Future Makers Programme in Duqm

The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) concludes this week the activities of the Future Makers Programme, which aims to create a generation of young Omanis at Duqm, capable of keeping pace with the rapid developments in modern technologies and future skills. The Programme focused on developing the talents of school students in grades 8 to 11 in personal and skills aspects.

The programme is implemented by Tawasul Foundation with the support of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) and Asyad Dry dock in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

The Programme, which kicked off on November 7, seeks to develop students’ skills and abilities in dealing with future technologies and their applications, and to enhance the aspects of innovation and creativity among male and female students to contribute to achieving the national goals and priorities of Oman Vision 2040. Lokwise, it aims to introduce the new generation to the importance of future technologies and skills and their role in achieving Oman vision 2040. In addition, the Programme seek to support students’ comprehension of the basics of mathematics and English language and strengthen their understanding in a way that contributes to the development of their skills and reflects positively on their academic journey and daily life.

Mona bint Said Al Shukaili, CEO of Tawasul Foundation, said that, the Foundation considers education and innovation a top priority, providing innovative educational programmes that keep pace with future requirements and contribute to preparing students to play the role expected of them, to contribute to the realisation of Oman Vision 2040.

She added: “Our Future Makers Programme came as the first of these programmes to enhance the skills of 150 male and female students from Duqm in the areas of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and other innovative and creative skills to establish a generation capable of keeping pace with economic and scientific developments in Duqm and to supply higher education institutions and the labor sector with qualified and ambitious youth”.

Eng. Yahiya bin Khamis Al Zadjali, In-Charge of Managing Operations of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, said that the Programme reflects the interest of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones to enrich the knowledge of  school students  at Duqm of modern sciences. He noted that this Programme attracts the attention of male and female students, as student are keen to benefit from the lessons provided and the practical exercises that have been conducted over the past few weeks.

Al Zadjali added, “The Programme focused on preparing future makers to keep pace with the changes brought about by the information revolution and its impact on improving the lifestyle, especially in economic areas that depend on the business environment through multiple means of communication”.

During the first week, the Programme provided interactive educational lessons in English language and mathematics. It also touched on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and specialised technologies in the fields of programming and smart applications, in addition to future specialisations and Oman Vision 2040, as well as the five intelligences.

In the second week, the Future Makers Programme focused on the Internet of Things, programming and robots, and the third and fourth weeks were dedicated to information related to drones and 3D printing, in addition to competitions and challenges in the field of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and global competitions in this context.

This week will focus on building students capacities in implementing projects in the fields of technology, which they have been trained on over the past weeks. It will also include preparing for the race of ideas and introducing Hackathon and its mechanism, in addition to interactive scientific sessions in communication skills such as persuasion and public speaking.
