Consultancy Services Agreement Signed for Detailed Master Planning of Duqm City

The Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (SEZAD) today awarded the consultancy services for the detailed master planning, market and feasibility study, design and preparation of tender documents for the development of Duqm City Phase (1) to WS Atkins International.
The contract was signed on behalf of the Authority by Yahya bin Said al-Jabri, Chairman of Board of Directors of the Authority whereas on behalf of the company by Marco G. Malpiedi, General Manager of the company in the Sultanate.
In an effort to continue to development of Duqm City and to enhance the standards in relations to urban planning within the Zone, SEZAD carries on the details on the initial concept master plan for Duqm City, which was completed in 2014. This will enable the Authority to provide a sound and a detail plan as to how it wishes to develop the future city of Duqm, which represents a total area of 150 square kilometers. This area is comprised of 5 distinct districts inclusive of existing and upcoming residential, commercial, mixed-use, logistic and tourism developments.
Detailed Master Planning the future city of Duqm is critical to the development of the infrastructures and understanding how and when to develop in sync with the market requirements. This will enable the government of Oman to ultimately reduce infrastructure cost by applying smart planning principals and designing the required infrastructures to attract both local and international investors to cater to the needs of the future population of Duqm City.
WS Atkins International & Co shall be the lead consultant to work hand in hand with the urban planning and engineering department of SEZAD and many other related departments, authorities and various stakeholders in the development of Duqm. The lead consultant will be joined by sub-consultants, such as Deloitte, Five Oceans Environmental Services, Kamel Establishment, Driver Consult and Design Urban.
The first phase of this project shall last be divided in 4 stages and last 30 weeks and shall start this October. This study will include the detailed master plan of Duqm City, a market study and technical feasibility study, a strategic environmental assessment, sustainability assessment, concept design with engineering fit, tourism strategy, transport master plan, drainage master plan and so much more.
The SEZAD looks forward to develop this exemplary detailed master plan for the future city of Duqm.
