The Event includes youth laboratories, an astronomical observatory for the stars, with a large number of scouts and guides present to organise visitors

Duqm - November 29, 2022:

The activities of Amad Duqm 22 are continuing in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, amid wide public interest and participation. A large number of people were keen to participate in youth events and activities in areas such as culture, sports, innovation, technology, sustainability and entertainment. The Event is expected to attract large numbers of visitors during the 52nd National Day holiday. 

Astrology  

The activities held at the event include observing the planets and celestial bodies and everything related to astrology. A special corner has been allocated to astrology. Commenting on the offerings of the corner, HH Sayyid Dr. Faris bin Turki Al Said, Director of Marketing at the Astronomical Technology Trading Est said “ This Event comes at a time when monitoring celestial bodies has become part of astronomical tourism. As a result, visitors and the public have the opportunity to get to know astrology closely. 

"Our beloved country abounds with clear skies and different terrains from north to south. This encourages astrology lovers to come to our observatory. The event is also an opportunity to encourage the public to think about the scientific and heritage side as well as the entertainment side of astrology", he added. 

 “You can follow stars sometimes with the naked eye but in other cases you need astronomical devices or lenses to help you discover things that cannot be seen with the naked eye”, he furthered. 

"Young people are the leaders of the future, and that is why cultivating scientific curiosity in them is among the goals of our establishment. We provide visitors and the public present at the activities of Amad Duqm with the opportunity to see the objects in the sky. We also explain to them what they see, and tell them famous stories in previous civilisations about stars and some Arab heritage. They may also experience observing planets and celestial bodies through the existing lens that we brought in this event”, he concluded. 

Scouts and Guides 

Within the initiatives and volunteer work, the General Directorate of Scouts and Guides at the Ministry of Education participates in the Amad Duqm 22 Event. There are 140 participants, including 70 participants from scouts and 70 participants from the scout band. Participants contribute to managing the organization of entry and exit to and from events. They also guide visitors to the events and programs sites .They provide logistical support in all technical, organisational and administrative aspects. They also participate in presenting musical instruments and performances for visitors to the event.

 “The participation of the General Directorate of Scouts and Girl Guides in the event is part of the community partnership and volunteer efforts of the members of the scout and guide movement. This also comes as an extension of previous participations in environmental and community service initiatives. It also comes as a continuation of the initiatives to provide logistical and field support in the various events in which we participated during the adverse climatic conditions and during the COVID-19 pandemic. This also comes as an affirmation of the scouting and guiding values ​​and principles and based on the national duty to support the community in various fields,” said Khalifa bin Ali Al Rawahi, General Supervisor of the Scouts and Girl Guides team participating in the Amad Duqm 22 Event. 

Gliding

Amidst a large number of audiences, the Sky Safari Oman paragliding team led by Captain Jamal bin Khamis Al Zadjali (representative of the Omani Committee for Air Sports) participated in the Amad Duqm 22 Event. The team presented shows that won the admiration of the audience. The gliding planes adorned the Duqm sky with the colors of the Sultanate’s flag and pictures of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik. Flags were also raised and training programs and air tours were conducted for visitors and tourists in the region.

"The team's participation came to introduce visitors to this sport, which contributes to attracting domestic tourism to the Sultanate. Sky Safari Oman for gliding includes a group of pilots, trainers, and an experienced ground crew that won great appreciation from the authorities supervising the Amad  Duqm 22, said Al Zadjali. 

It should be noted, “Amad Duqm" event came as a mini experimental laboratory that reflect the aspirations of Omani youth for the future of Oman and the world. The design and implementation were entrusted to a selected group of creative Omani youth, who created a vision that combines science, technology, art and entertainment in a modern form that reviews challenges and opportunities to create a better world.
